Saturday August 23rd - We arrived in Milan and took a taxi to our hotel, then visited the train station. Later we had to make sure the ice cream/gelato was good as we checked out more of the area. We then enjoyed dinner at Ristorante Settembrini 18
Sunday August 24th - some rain but we toured the Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral).
And we went through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Italy's oldest active shopping arcade, designed in 1861 and built by architect Giuseppe Mengoni between 1865 and 1877.
We bought tickets to a tour that included Teatro alla Scala and its museum, and to the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie which houses both Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper and Crucifixion by Giovanni Donato da Montorfano.
Monday August 25th - After spending the night in Varenna, we headed out to find a ferry and ended up taking one to Menaggio. Some wandering then lunch at Dispensa del Pesin.
Another ferry took us to Bellagio where we hopped on to a trolly for a 30-minute ride around town then strolled around to see more.
And yet another ferry returned us to Varenna where we spent a 2nd night. We enjoyed dinner at Alma Pizza and Pasta, then more wandering and a beautiful sunset. And of course we ended the day with gelato from Gelaterid le Pufferella.
Tuesday August 26th - Headed to Como via a long ferry ride that stopped at 5 or 6 towns along the way. Beautiful scenery with mountains and sky and cute dock areas. We ended our final ferry ride In Como where of course there was more wandering then lunch at a deli. Later we hopped on a train to Milan for another night there before starting our official tour the next day.
