Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
It was a long travel day--seven hours to get from from Hungary to Croatia. We made a coffee break/pit stop (aka ice cream break), then had lunch at a hotel in Donji Krljevec, Croatia. The rain stopped long enough for us to get in and out without getting wet and to play on the playground. A few more hours and we arrived in Plitvička Jezera, checked into our hotel, had an overview of tomorrow's plans, visited the bear in the lobby, and had dinner.

The day began with a visit to the deep greens and blues of Croatia's water wonderland and one of Europe's premier nature preserves, Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is Croatia's oldest and largest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We walked through trees and waterfalls on wooden 'slats' for 2.69 miles. Then rode a boat across the water to begin the 2nd half of the hike. Our tour guide knew a trick so we entered at the exit and headed towards the entrance so as to avoid the masses going the other way!
Theresa stayed behind with Tom and Nancy who had hurt her shoulder the day before. They met up with us and rest of the group in time to begin the 4-hour drive to St. Katarina's Island, including a stop in the quaint seaside village of Senj, Croatia.
