Budapest, Hungary - More!
June 24, 2024
This morning Esther was our guide again as we explored the Buda side of Budapest. We took public transportation from the hotel, across the river, and up the hill. There we explored Matthias Church, Buda Castle, the Church of St. Mary Magdalene the remaining bell tower and the tribute park), Fisherman's Bastion, Viktor Orbán's headquarters, the Hapsburg Gate, and more.
The group took the tram back downhill to The Great Market Hall and then we were on our own. We couldn't find the restaurant that had been recommended for lunch, so after wandering the area in the heat, we finally found a restaurant in a cool basement. We asked for ice in our drinks, and they brought us a whole bucket! After lunch we went back and explored the market and then went back to the hotel.
Around 7pm Buda Hill was calling us back for golden and blue hour photography. On the way we stopped for dinner at an outdoor patio shared by Burger King and Bamba Marha (translation: "wow beef"), a local hamburger joint. After capturing beautiful night photos we were successful returning to the hotel via the local transit system, even without Sanel's help!
And so ended our time in Hungary. Next on the tour:
